Whether you are completely new to firearms or looking to formalise your skills for personal, sporting, or professional use, our structured firearm competency training provides a clear and guided pathway for every level of shooter.
We offer comprehensive training across multiple firearm platforms, including handguns, rifles, and shotguns, as well as specialised business and tactical competency courses. Each programme is designed to build safe handling skills, responsible firearm knowledge, and practical shooting ability in a controlled and professional environment.
Firearm competency in South Africa is a required process for anyone wishing to legally apply for a firearm licence. This training—commonly referred to as proficiency training—forms the foundation of safe and responsible firearm ownership.
Our training combines theoretical learning with practical application. Participants are provided with study material to work through at their own pace, followed by assessments that include both open-book and closed-book evaluations. This ensures a solid understanding of firearm safety, legislation, and operational use.
The practical component is conducted under the supervision of qualified instructors and typically takes one to two days to complete, depending on the selected course. The theoretical portion can generally be completed over one to two weeks, allowing flexibility for individual learning pace.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a proficiency certificate. This certificate is then used, along with the required SAPS documentation, to apply for your competency at your local police station. Once approved, you will be issued a competency certificate, which forms part of the process for applying for a firearm licence.
While the process may initially seem complex, our experienced instructors are here to guide you every step of the way—from training and assessments through to certification and submission—ensuring a smooth and compliant journey throughout.
